The assessment

What is going on, explained first.

Dr. Haykani looks at your jaw, bite and teeth, asks about symptoms such as jaw discomfort, clicking, clenching or grinding, and explains what she finds.

Conservative care and referral

Reversible care first, referral when needed.

Many TMD symptoms improve without invasive treatment, and painless clicking often needs no treatment at all. When care is appropriate, conservative, reversible approaches are generally preferred, including protecting the teeth when grinding is causing wear. Some symptoms need further evaluation from another kind of clinician. When that is the case, Dr. Haykani tells you and recommends a referral.

The office is open Sunday through Friday, 8 AM to 7 PM, with Sunday and evening appointments available.

  • Braces are not a proven treatment for TMD, and treatments that permanently change the bite are not recommended as a first step. Dr. Haykani explains what is most likely to help in your case.

  • Usually not. Clicking or popping without pain is common and usually does not need treatment. Dr. Haykani can check it and tell you whether anything else is worth looking at.

  • For many people, yes. Many TMD symptoms improve without invasive treatment, which is why conservative, reversible care is generally preferred first.
