A clinician treating the jaw area

The assessment

What is going on, explained first.

Dr. Haykani looks at your jaw, bite and teeth, asks about symptoms such as jaw discomfort, clicking, clenching or grinding, and explains what she finds. Temporomandibular disorders (TMD) affect the jaw joints and the muscles that move them.

Conservative options and next steps

Simple, reversible care first.

Many TMD symptoms improve without invasive treatment, and painless clicking often needs no treatment at all. When care is appropriate, conservative, reversible approaches are generally preferred, including protecting the teeth when grinding is causing wear. Dr. Haykani explains the options for your situation.

When referral may be appropriate

Another type of care, when needed.

Some symptoms need further evaluation from another kind of clinician. When that is the case, Dr. Haykani tells you and recommends a referral.

The office is open Sunday through Friday, 8 AM to 7 PM, with Sunday and evening appointments available.

What it costs

Quoted before you decide.

The consultation is free, and any treatment fee is quoted before you decide.

  • Usually not. Clicking or popping without pain is common and usually does not need treatment. Dr. Haykani can check it and tell you whether anything else is worth looking at.

  • Braces are not a proven treatment for TMD, and treatments that permanently change the bite are not recommended as a first step. Dr. Haykani explains what is most likely to help in your case.

  • When symptoms point to something that needs further evaluation from another kind of clinician. Dr. Haykani tells you if that is the case and recommends a referral.
