What the first visit coversAround Castaic
Where the valley meets the Grapevine.
Castaic sits at the northern end of the Santa Clarita Valley, where Interstate 5 starts its climb toward the Grapevine. The Old Road still runs beside the freeway through town, a reminder of the older highways Castaic grew up along.
Castaic Lake, on the north side of town, is part of the State Water Project. The upper lake is used for boating and fishing, and the lower lake, Castaic Lagoon, has the swim beach.
West of the freeway, Hasley Canyon is an outlying part of Castaic, north of Val Verde. Val Verde itself lies about three miles west of Interstate 5.
