The physical therapy department is pleased to offer a comprehensive lymphedema treatment program available through Lisa Diebold, MS, PT, CDT. Lisa works closely with our patients to develop a comprehensive treatment plan to treat their lymphedema. Our approach combines four elements of Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT):
1. Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD)
2. Compression (bandaging and garments)
3. Remedial Exercise
4. Skin Care
Lymphedema treatment is broken down into an intense phase and a transition to self -management phase. The intense phase focuses on daily MLD treatment and bandaging. During this phase, the patient learns how to bandage their arm. The patient also receives education regarding skin care, exercise and lymphedema risk reduction practices. During the transition phase, MLD frequency will gradually decrease. The patient will be measured for a compression garment that will be worn daily, and transition to bandaging at night only.
